Changing of the Guard

May is when we hold our annual club business; elections, collection of yearly dues, etc.  This year marked the first time we ever had members vie for positions on the board of directors!  I am sure the newly elected officials will do a great job!

Heidi with French style rolling pin
Jerry with hollow form

The demo topic for our April meeting was all about Design Basics.  We had three of the clubs top turners take turns discussing those basics and how to use them to improve your turnings.

Before the demo started, Heidi Sweet brought in a French style rolling pin for Show & Tell!  Matt Hirvonen brought in a square edged bowl and Jerry Jarvis brought in a number of his latest turnings!

Thanks to everyone who brought in turnings for Show & Tell! This was the first time that we had almost equal time devoted to checking out the work of our members as we did for the demo! Amazing work!

Don Perrow Eagle Head Cane

Don Perrow brought in an absolutely beautiful eagle head cane that he had created. The amount of detail carved into the cane was stunning! Very nice work Don!

Kevin talks about Election

Kevin Wendt, Vice President, advised club members that there will be changes to the board this year as some of the board members have decided to step down after having served the club since its inception.  In addition, the board is creating a new position so that there will now be 2 Officers at Large.  The Officers at Large position will carry with it a 2 year term limit, with the terms staggered such that the board retains experience during any changeover.  The position was created so that additional members can take part in guiding the direction of the club.  There are no actual duties for that position other than to assist other board members when requested.  It is a great way to take part in the behind the scenes discussions, vote on club activities and have a voice in what demos we offer to the membership.  Seriously, it is a lot of fun, not a huge time commitment – PLUS – all the meetings are held during a dinner scheduled before a regular meeting!!

If you would like to run for any of the board positions, please contact Kevin so that he can place your name on the ballet.  Elections will be held during the May 1st meeting, so you do have time to consider running!!  Please, it is your club… step up and help make it even better!!
